Q.  If I use Edge Shield with 1-2-3 Door Shield®, can I still secure the door?

A.  Edge Shield is designed to protect the exposed edges of doors and is to be used in conjunction with 1-2-3 Door Shield®.  Edge Shield is not intended to be used on a door in its closed position but primarily to provide edge protection during the day when the door is open and is being used to access construction or furniture move-in activities.  If one wants to close the protected door, the Edge Shields should be removed by un-zipping the Velcro fasteners, and the door can be secured with the Door Shield in place.  The Edge Shield can be quickly re-installed for the condition wherein the door is to remain open.

Q. How does a standard 1-2-3 Door Shield® fit around my hardware?

A. 1-2-3 Door Shield® is made with pre-engineered perforated knockouts designed to fit most hardware and closer configurations. Simply remove the necessary knockouts, nest the Door Shield around the hardware and attach the hook-and-loop fasteners.

Q. Do the hardware preps for 1-2-3 Door Shield® adapt for panic bars?

A. 1-2-3 Door Shield® does not have perforations for panic bars. However, with some easy field engineering, 1-2-3 Door Shield® can be modified to work on doors with panic bars. The photos in the pop-up window show how Door Shields can be adapted for use with panic bars. Use a blade to remove part of the lower panel on the panic bar side (being careful not to damage the face of the door). Using our specially designed edge tape (with no adhesive making contact with the door surface), make a butterfly connection between the separated lower panel and the upper panel of the Door Shield. Re-attach the hook-and-loop fasteners on the lower panels to hold everything in place. Modifying 1-2-3 Door Shield® in this manner will severely limit its reusability but it does provide an easy and effective way to protect doors with panic hardware.

Q. I have a small number of wider and taller doors that I need to protect. Do I need to order 350 units of each size to protect non-standard sized doors?

A. The minimum order for non-standard sizes is 350 units. However, we recognize that many jobs have only a few taller or wider doors so we have developed two new products to ensure that a small number of non-standard sized doors can be protected. The Extender makes it possible to convert a 3070 or 3080 Door Shield to fit wider doors, in six inch increments. Each Extender is divided into five 6-inch panels that can be separated at perforations in 6-inch or 12-inch widths and added to a standard width Door Shield to protect wider doors. The Extender is sold in 5-pack cartons and can adapt up to 30 Door Shields. The Suspender Adaptor Kit makes it possible to convert a 3070 or 3080 Door Shield to fit taller doors, up to two feet taller. The Suspender also allows the Door Shield to be used on radius cut doors. The Suspender Adaptor Kit can be purchased in any quantity. Please call us for pricing and more information on these two products.

Q. Is 1-2-3 Door Shield® just for new construction?

A. No, 1-2-3 Door Shield® is used in many applications. It is used in new construction, major renovations and minor remodeling activities. 1-2-3 Door Shield® is used by the apartment industry to protect doors when tenants are moving in or moving out. It is used by facility managers to protect doors during routine and major maintenance activities. For instance, Door Shields have been used to protect doors from floor cleaning equipment. 1-2-3 Door Shield® has been used to protect doors in schools when furniture is moved to allow for summertime painting and floor cleaning. Door Shields can be used by moving companies, property managers, facility managers, construction managers and housekeeping staffs. If an activity can damage a door,  1-2-3 Door Shield® can add value.
